Yakshagana Spardhe

The Patla Sambhrama hosts a two-day student Yakshagana competition with specific rules: each team must comprise a minimum of 10 artists, performances are limited to 45 minutes, and background musicians may include outsiders. This competition welcomes troupes from both styles: Tenkuthittu and Badaguthittu. Distinguished by their makeup, costumes, and dance intricacies, these styles contribute to Yakshagana’s rich tapestry, preserving tradition and beauty while ensuring the continuity of the art form.
The Yakshadhruva Patla Foundation Trust’s dedication to Yakshagana showcases its global impact and cultural significance. The student competition, a testament to this commitment, nurtures young talent and ensures the vibrant tradition continues to captivate audiences. It’s a celebration of artistic expression, cultural heritage, and community spirit, where the past and present of Yakshagana converge, captivating hearts worldwide.

A total of 34 teams participated in the two-day student Yakshagana competition held at Adyar Garden, Mangalore on the occasion of Patla Sambhrama-2023. The duration of the competition was 45 minutes and there was a rule that each team should have at least 10 artists participating in costumes. A total of 612 artists from 12 teams in the high school section and 22 teams in the college section participated. Although there is an opportunity to use outsiders as background artists, what has captivated people the most is that these institutions are using their own teachers for this role.
